Home. She had grown up in the forest. In the beginning it was just at the edge but in those later years her father and herself had migrated to the heart of the trees for more coverage and safety. It was hard to find two dogs that wandered through the center of the forest. The streams helped disguise the pairing for their entire life. While they both knew they were not being tracked by their attackers, it was just a cautious measure. If there was one vicious pack of strays in the world, more were sure to arrive if they hadn't already. Anaire was down by one of the streams that late evening. She had just passed word to her father that she was going to venture into the city to see if the larger population had anything to say on her missing family. It had been four years of her life and she had never stepped foot into the city. Her father and mother had both come from city life. They had always told her it was filled with cruel intentions and dangerous venues. The Chinook had been trying to avoid it her entire life but the time had come for her to break down walls. She had been all over the surrounding areas and did not find a single sign of her missing family. Those that remained missing had most likely left clues in the city as to their where-abouts. The crunching of leaves echoed out behind Anaire. She quickly flipped her head around, eyes rapidly scanning the area for what had caused the sound. When nothing revealed itself she decided it was time to get her move on. She had spent enough time gathering courage to leave her familiar home once again and traverse new territory. The canine stepped cautiously into the stream before she began to head south to the direction of the looming city. Her ears twitched rapidly as she tried to listen for the sounds of any other living creature. On occasion she would look over her shoulder for what had made the sound but nothing revealed itself. That was until a deer came crashing through the trees and straight over the stream. Anaire let out a low snarl, her back raising as she prepared to chase it. That was, she had planned on chasing until she heard another sound that was not simply a fleeing deer. No. Another canine was nearby. But, a hunt was a hunt. |
